Sharad Poonam – Sunday 13th October

Please join us for Sharad Punam raas on Sunday 13th October from 7:30-9:30pm.

”Sharad” – The season marking the end of monsoon and the beginning of winter.
”Poonam” – Full moon day.

On this day, when the moon is at its brightest, Maharaj played raas with many santos and haribhaktos. The kirtan ‘Juo Juo Sahelio Aaj Rasio Raas Rame…‘ depicts one such amazing occasion in Panchala, when Maharaj took multiple forms and played raas with each devotee under the light of the moon.

Also on this day, Krshna Bhagwan played raas with the gopi’s in Vrundavan. Just like the moon glows in the sky, Vrundavan was glowing with Krshna Bhagwan’s presence. He took his flute out and the air was filled with the sweetest sound.

On hearing this sweet sound the gopi’s immediately abandoned everything and rushed towards this sound. This showed how devoted they were to Krshna Bhagwan. Their devotion and love for Him was so great that the gopi’s commenced playing raas around Him. Krshna Bhagwan and Radhikaji played raas in the middle and eventually He assumed as many forms as there were Gopi’s and played raas with each and every one of them.

The essence of this event is that our devotion for God should be like the love of the Gopi’s to Krshna.

Traditionally dudh pakh and puri is offered to Maharaj and taken as prasad. Raas is played with great fervor in the mandir.
