About YM

According to our Swaminarayan sampraday’s Holy Scriptures we celebrate each and every occasions with great festivity. These include occasions such as, Ramanavami, Janmashtami, Diwali, Ankoth, and so on, with special inclusions of annual anniversary celebrations of the Temple followed by 5 to 7 days Katha Parayan in the presence of saints and Acharaya Maharaj Shree.

To go even further, we also run:

  • A school, namely – Sahajanand School
  • A youth group, namely – Swaminarayan Yuvak Mandal
  • A Band/Lazium team – Band/Lazium

Sahajanand School, where today’s young ones of ages 8 to 18 take part in experiencing themselves in reading, writing and understanding Gujarati (The mother tongue). Sahajanand School is run from the S.K.S.S. Temple’s premises every Saturday from 4.15pm to 6.30pm. Seven classes from Class 1 to Class 7 are currently being run with the help of the well-educated teachers. Class 7 being is the advanced class out of the seven offered at present. Once the students satisfy the requirements of Class 7, they are encouraged to sit GCSE (well-recognised Government qualification standard in England and Wales) examination in Gujarati and if successful he/she is presented with the Certificate of Achievement. This special examination is organised by the Gujarat Academy of Wembley, London. In short, in order that the youngsters can read, write and understand gujarati on living in a westernised country, we maintain good regular attendance of good teachers so that students can respect the knowledge they need to have. All students take part in studying for the mother tongue and religious education. Teaching today and self-motivation of students have led us to provide knowledge in a much wider spectrum.

Today, female students take parts in learning sewing, craft, art, etc., and male students take parts in learning tabla, dholak, khanjri, piano, etc.

Interested male students take part in a small youth group (namely, Swaminarayan Yuvak Mandal), managed by older youths, and is formed by the Temple. They rehearse to be proficient in chanting kirtan/bhajan lyrics with the aid of musical instruments, such as, tabla, dholak, khanjri, piano, etc. This same youth group also maintains band and Lazium of the East London Temple. Currently, there are at least 20 young students who take part in Lazium and at least 15 youths that take part in band. These youths with their relevant instruments show to Lord Shree Swaminarayan their believes by performing to the best of their ability during various occasions including thakarthalii, processions, weddings invitations, etc. This way, our Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple (East London) has achieved a well-recognised position within the local borough itself and amongst other Temples outside the borough.

Despite all the above activities that take place at this Temple, we as a Swaminarayancommunity are still not 100 per cent satisfied in what we provide, and hence always sort to include other provisions that brings peace and devotion to todays youths, who we believe are the future carriers of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

Other activities such as monthly presentations, summer fun-day out, treasure hunt, Christmas fun-day, Shikshapatri evening lectures, are some of the normal acitivities of the Yuvak Mandal of East London Swaminarayan. To learn more on these special programmes keep an eye out on this website and under YM section.
